6:8 Walk

I’ve struggled to know exactly how I should continue to respond to the current national conversation around race and equality. Particularly as a white pastor in a predominantly white community, while also as a parent to two beautiful African-American girls. I’ve been hesitant to jump behind some of the mass messaging and national titles of the protests because of the variety of messages these labels connote, some of which I agree with and some I do not. But to say and do nothing is not an option. There’s too much at stake.

I’ve personally had and listened to many conversations over the last few weeks with people of color who have each overwhelmingly expressed that they have individually experienced racism living as a citizen in our country. Regardless of how you feel about how best to address this, this is the real present situation. As a follower of Christ, it is our responsibility to step into the conversations with the goal of having the mind of Christ, so that our words and actions may be those Christ would have.

This Saturday at 6 pm there is a peaceful march in Alma starting at Wright Park. My family and I will be joining. The march is titled 6:8 after Micah 6:8.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”

You are invited to come and participate as a person of faith. This is just a step in a process of engaging and addressing this issue. To publicly speak out against racism and work to support our African American brothers and sisters and others who are hurting.
